Racism and discrimination have no place in our classrooms or our world.
We are heartbroken by the acts of violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. With the rise of hate and discrimination against AAPI individuals since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, more attention has been given to the harmful rhetoric and stereotypes that have long excluded and “othered” Americans of AAPI descent. To our Asian colleagues, friends, educators, and students — we see you, we value you, and we stand with you.
As educators, we know none of us can thrive while some of us live in fear. We urge all members of our community to stand up and speak out against acts of racism inside and outside of our classrooms, and to teach our students to celebrate diversity and address injustice. We reaffirm our pledge to fight discrimination, racism, and hate, and commit to donating $50,000 to organizations working to build safer and more inclusive communities.
We’ve collected some resources to help educators navigate current events with their students, build inclusive school culture, and take direct action to support AAPI communities.
