One request we’ve received several times in the past is: “How do I print from a Chromebook?” Chromebooks are useful for student collaboration and portability, and printing is one of those tasks that all users will need at some point. For how commonly used it is, printing should be a simple task...but when you’re coming from another OS, some features can be hard to find.

This Tip Tuesday video will show you how to set up a printer on a Chromebook device.

Steps for setting up a printer:

1. Click on the Chrome menu in the top right corner of your browser.

2. Hit Settings.

A menu on Google Chrome that reads "settings."

3. Click Advanced.

4. Look for a section labeled Printing.

5. Select Printers. (There’s also the option to select Google Cloud Print.)

A Chromebook menu states Printing Settings and Printers.

6. If you’ve connected a printer via USB, you should see it appear here. If not, we will need to add one via the network.

7. Click Add Printer, and give your printer a name.

8. Enter the IP address of the printer.
   a. You can get this from your network administrator or by inspecting your printer.
   b. On our Ricoh printer, we select Check Status, and the IP is under the Network section
       of Machine Status.

A Chromebook menu reads "Add a printer manually."

9. Once you have your printer’s IP address, enter it on the Chromebook’s Add Printer page. IPP should do the trick in most cases.

10. Click Add.

Your printer is now connected, and you’re ready to print!

Printing from Chromebook:

1. Navigate to the Chrome menu button on the top right, and click Print. Or hit Ctrl+P on your keyboard. If you don’t see your printer in the Destination drop-down list, simply click See More

A print menu reads Destination and See More.

2. Choose your printer from the dropdown list.

3. Hit Print.

A print menu reads Destination and GoGuardian Printer.

And voila! You've printed from your Chromebook!
