2021 End-of-Year Updates for GoGuardian Teacher

GoGuardian Team
Teacher using GGT to approve and block sites

As the 2020-2021 school year winds down, we want to share some GoGuardian Teacher™ updates we’ve been working on! See what’s new in GoGuardian Teacher and what else you can expect this summer.

Scenes enhancements

The Scenes feature enables teachers to create custom browsing rules for students, setting the “scene” for your classroom session. By choosing which websites to allow or block, you can help keep students focused. These newest enhancements make it easier than ever to create and apply browsing rules to students.

Here are the highlights:

  • Recommendations for websites to block or allow
  • Advanced filtering capabilities
  • Coming soon: Apply different scenes to different students

New URL suggestions – As you build browsing rules for students, you’ll see suggested URLs students may need to access in order to log in to the websites you use.

New advanced filtering capabilities – You can now block all of YouTube except specific instructional videos of your choosing. Similarly, you can enable all of G Suite except Google Sites, which is perfect for when you administer open-note quizzes but don’t want students to Google the answer.

COMING SOON: Apply different browsing rules to students - Later this summer, you’ll be able to use Scenes along with our Student Groups feature to apply different browsing rules to students.

URL checker: Check to see if websites are blocked

Soon you'll be able to use a URL checker to see whether websites you want to use for the lesson will be blocked. If your school uses GoGuardian Admin™ as its content filter, you will be able to check whether a website is blocked by the filter. You’ll see whether it is blocked for the whole class or individual students. Soon you’ll also see if the website will be blocked by any of your Scenes, with the option to update your Scene to include the URL.

We’re investigating the option to enable teachers to bypass GoGuardian Admin filters for educational content. As we investigate this, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Please visit our feedback forum to submit your suggestions.

Reporting enhancements: email student reports

Soon you’ll have the option to email student reports so you can help keep parents and administrators informed. You will also be able to email reports to yourself to print or save it as a PDF, so you can better track student attendance and engagement during class. You will be able to choose which sections you would like to be included in the report, as well as provide an additional message, before emailing the report to recipients separately.
